ASSAGAY, ALVERSTONE AND SUMMERVELD

Past Hillcrest on the route to Pietermaritzburg lie the small farms and large private properties of Assagay, nestling amongst the green hills and sugar cane with beautiful views towards the coast in the East and the Drakensberg Mountains in the West. This is an area favoured especially by horse riders and those wishing to live on a "farm" in the suburbs! The Summerveld Equestrian and Jockey Academy; its word-famous racehorse training facility, two independent equine hospitals are situated here as well as the Shongweni polo club and show grounds. The new freeway allows access to Durban within 30 minutes.

EVERTON

An area adjoining Kloof and Gillitts, Everton is a "Conservancy" of awesome natural beauty. The gorge and Molweni River running through it give access to walking in the sub-tropical forests abounding in natural flora and fauna. There are dedicated park rangers and also a dedicated security company with armed response to alarm.

GILLITTS AND WINSTON PARK

Between Kloof and Hillcrest, and about 30 kms. West of Durban is this "Gracious and Spacious" area of the Outer-West. Whereas Gillitts allows subdivision to half-acre(2000sq.m.)plots, Everton has a minimum size of 2 acres (8000sq.m.) The properties here have an aura of privacy and tranquillity, enhanced by the Conservancy which is proudly promoted by the Community.

HILLCREST

With an elevation of some 650 metres above sea level and positioned 30 kms from the warm Indian Ocean, Hillcrest is reputed to have one of the healthiest climates in the world. The average summer temperature is 24deg.C. and the annual mean temperature is 17.8deg.C. The average rainfall is 867mm per year. Together with these very comfortable climatic conditions Hillcrest enjoys a prime position in relation to the major centres in Kwa-Zulu-Natal. Durban is 35 kms and Pietermaritzburg 55 kms away; and even Johannesburg is little more than 5 hours drive. There is also easy access to the beautiful Natal Northern and Southern coastal resorts; and the magnificent Drakensberg mountains (the snow-capped peaks of which can be seen on clear winter mornings) are barely 40 minutes away.

KLOOF

Which is about 20 kilometres West of Durban, approximately 550 metres above sea level and away from its tropical heat and humidity, has always been favoured as a "select" residential area. At the turn of the century many of Durban's wealthier businessmen established "country lodges" here. Fertile soil and the temperate climate with summer rainfall, mild winters and the absence of strong winds have made Kloof famous for its beautiful gardens. Being in a sub-tropical region, Kloof rarely experiences frost. Summer temperatures range from 18deg.C to 29deg.C, and in winter they average between 12C and 20C. The spectacular Kloof Gorge is a protected nature reserve whose verdant krantzes are overlooked by many of the properties here.
